Peter and I got up Monday morning with the plan to be down at the Coho ferry Tuesday at 9. We took our car in for a tuneup and the mechanic said it should be done that morning.
Peter and I scramble around packing things, cleaning things up, trying to get the things on our list done… 12:00 rolls around and we still haven’t heard from them. Peter gives them a call (I always try to decline doing anything that has to do with car mechanics.) and they tell us our radiator is going, the brakes are starting to get warn down and our tires are bad. oh. And we need our spark plugs replaced. Peter considers… we’ve been driving the car for a while, the radiator’s not actually *gone*, the brakes aren’t even squeaking yet… we could probably use new tires, but this isn’t the place to get them from. In the end we let them give us some new spark plugs. We figured we’d stop somewhere and get new tires. Which is where I’m writing this from!
Not really believe that we would be able to get the car packed and our lives in sufficient order to get on the ferry in the morning, we did what we could (with Peter playing one last board game) and to our amazement we were ready to go at 8:30!!!! I haven’t even thought of things that we have forgotten yet!
Our last stop before we left town was our neighbourhood coffee shop: koffi. We picked up a couple of americanos to go and the barista Anna gave us a hug goodbye. I can only hope that down in San Francisco we can find a coffee shop with people get to know and like as well as our friends at Koffi.
To the Coho!
We make it at exactly 9:00 and spend the next 40 minutes in immigration getting our paperwork sorted out. The officers were really nice and quite helpful. A boarder crossing I would definitely recommend. By the way, the Coho food is AWFUL! Seriously not recommended. The trip was rolly on the way over, but I managed to not actually be ill. Peter loved it. Curse his sea legs!
