I switched to a Hunter thermostat and the o/b are seperate slots now.?

On the previous thermostat, the o and b were jumped together. Is this proper to do on the new one? the directions for the hunter does not have any furthur info. As far as I can tell I have a 2 stage system heat pump and electric furnace

The proper wiring is determined by the furnace you are operation. Did the old thermostat actually have a wire attached to these screws? If not, you can ignore them. If yes, you will need a jumper to get the same results. If in doubt, find the make/model

Yay! The power is back on. I was wondering how I could get the word out if it stayed off all day and I couldn't get to the computer. Apparently it was out as far away as Keene, a lot of southern New Hampshire. I guess it was because the snow was heavy and pulled some lines down. Our power went out about six thirty this morning, (and was restored at about 4:30) and so I just relaxed and read until I smelled the girls burning popcorn in the kitchen below- apparently they've forgotten how to do it on the stove top. (And once again I am so annoyed that I have a perfectly good gas stove, that the oven is impossible to use when the power's out!). It's amazing the number of things one can't do without power. First, of course, is write this letter- my Wednesday project. (also can't check facebook or live journal or other email; can't look things up. I wanted to look up German for rain, and wasn't going to bother to go upstairs for my dictionary.) One can't put on a movie, or listen to CDs (my courses on disc). Lighting becomes problematic, although we do have alternative lighting. The water pump is electric, so washing dishes or showering or doing laundry is out. I am not sure, but I think maybe the furnace is regulated by an electric thermostat- I should think it would be independent or have a battery back-up, but I'm not sure. The dryer doesn't work- even though it's a gas dryer. On the other hand, we do have lots of candles and other lamps. We could cook, both on the woodstove and the gas top. I made soup, and pasta with tomato sauce which we had for lunch, and cornbread which we had for lunch. Ordinarily we don't start shoveling until it stops snowing, but when we opened the doors for the cats and i saw how much there was, I decided to work on it for a while- and then it started raining. At that point I called the kids to help because the rain makes the snow heavy, and I was worried about what would happen if we had a sudden temperature drop and it became eight inches of...
